JEE Advanced Eligibility : Attempts and Minimum Qualifying

JEE Advanced serves as a national-level entrance exam for admission to undergraduate Engineering, Science, and Architecture courses in 23 IITs. The application forms for JEE Advanced 2024 will be available online on the official website according to the soon-to-be-announced schedule.

Prior to completing the JEE Advanced application form for 2024, it is recommended that candidates review the JEE Advanced eligibility criteria and exam guidelines. Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced (2023)"

NTA releases the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced annually on its official website. This set of criteria includes all the conditions and guidelines for the candidates. Below are the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced:

  • Applicants who achieve a rank within the top 250,000 in JEE Main are eligible to apply for the JEE Advanced exam.
  • They must also attain a minimum of 75 percent marks in their class 12 board exams (65 percent for reserved categories).
  • Candidates are allowed to take the JEE Advanced exam twice in consecutive years, regardless of their previous results.
  • Regarding nationality, foreign nationals, OCIs (Overseas Citizens of India), PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin), and Indian citizens are eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced 2024 exam, with specific conditions for foreign candidates set by the NTA.

JEE Advanced Age Limit

Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1997. Five years of age relaxation is given to SC, ST, and PwD candidates, i.e., these candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1992.

A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.

Eligibility for JEE Advanced Based on Class 12th Board Exams

  • Prior to taking the JEE Advanced exam, candidates must have passed their class 12th board exams or equivalent. For JEE Advanced 2024, candidates who took the class 12th exams or equivalent before 2021 are ineligible to sit for the JEE Advanced exam.
  • The NTA takes into account five subjects to determine the cut off marks for class 12th board exams: mathematics, physics, chemistry, optional language, and elective subject.
  • Total marks obtained in any of the mentioned subjects are not out of 100, the aggregate percentage will be adjusted by scaling the total marks up or down to 100.
  • Candidate takes the class 12th board exams twice, their best performance will be taken into consideration for the JEE Advanced exam.
  • Class 12th examination board announces the results late, candidates can still be eligible to take the JEE Advanced exam as long as they meet all the JEE Advanced criteria.
  • If a candidate’s class 12th board result is withheld by the examination body, they will not be permitted to take the JEE Advanced exam.
